‘SHATTERED MIRROR’ (DS9)
Please feel free to comment on my review.
It’s time for another Mirror Universe episode in the ‘DS9’ series. Sisko goes back there, but this time he’s joined by his son Jake. Jake also gets to meet the parallel universe version of his mom, Jennifer.
The episode begins with Jake looking over a balcony before Odo and Quark join him. These two are featured in this scene as the Mirror Universe versions of Odo and Quark were killed in ‘Crossover’. 😐
Eventually, Jake returns to his quarters. There he finds Sisko with the parallel universe version of Jennifer, played by Felecia M. Bell. Jake is rather pleased to see Jennifer and they get on pretty well.
Unfortunately, Sisko has to go to a meeting and when he returns to his quarters, he finds Jake and Jennifer gone. It seems that Mirror Jennifer kidnapped Jake to lure Sisko into the Mirror Universe. 😐
Sisko travels to the Mirror Universe in order to get his son back. Kira and O’Brien agree to accompany him. It would’ve been interesting if Kira met her alternative universe version self again. 🙂
Sadly Kira and O’Brien aren’t invited as it’s only Sisko who goes to the Mirror Universe to find his son. He meets the Mirror version of O’Brien – Smiley, and he’s prevented from leaving Terok Nor! 😮
Smiley O’Brien asks Sisko for help to prepare their version of the Defiant in their battle against the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. Using the Defiant could help the Terrans in their freedom against them.
Since Sisko last met them, the Terrans have taken control of Terok Nor – the Mirror version of DS9 – away from the Alliance. They’ve also captured the Intendant – the Mirror Kira – who’s evil as ever. 😀
Sisko agrees to help the Terran rebels and is allowed to see his son. Sisko isn’t happy about Jake being with Jennifer. He doesn’t trust her since she kidnapped Jake to lure Sisko to the Mirror Universe.
In the process of helping the Terrans to defend themselves from being recaptured by Alliance forces, Sisko meets up with Mirror Bashir who punches him in the face. He also gets slapped by Mirror Dax.
Ouch! That must hurt! Mirror Dax didn’t like being deceived by Sisko when…you know, he was pretending to be the Mirror Sisko that got killed. I wonder where Mirror Tuvok got to. Did he die? 😐
Jake also meets up with Aron Eisenberg as the Mirror version of Nog. Nog isn’t so friendly to Jake since he’s taken over Quark and Rom’s bar after they got killed. Nog also seems to be power-hungry.
Meanwhile, the Alliance forces are led by the Regent…who happens to be the Mirror Worf. Honestly, seeing Michael Dorn acting out all Klingon as the Mirror Worf was such fun to watch here.
I wonder what the Mirror versions of the ‘TNG’ characters are like. I would love to see Mirror versions of Picard, Riker, Data, Geordi, Beverly, Deanna and Wesley someday. It’d be so much fun. 🙂
Mirror Worf also has Andrew J. Robinson as Mirror Garak as his prisoner aboard the Klingon flagship for the Alliance. Mirror Worf keeps Mirror Garak his prisoner until they can get the Intendant back. 🙂
Soon, the Defiant gets to turn the tables once Sisko manages to get the ship into proper working order. The Defiant is able to outwit the Alliance ships in an impressive battle. The Alliance retreats. 🙂
Sadly, during the fight, Mirror Kira manages to escape her prison cell when she’s helped by Mirror Nog. Mirror Nog assisted her to escape because Quark and Rom’s deaths cleared the way for him. 😐
But instead of gratitude, Mirror Kira kills Mirror Nog after he promises not to tell anyone about her escape. Gosh, you don’t want to be in Mirror Kira’s way. She’ll seriously shoot you dead on the spot.
It becomes even more saddening when Mirror Kira shoots Mirror Jennifer, who sacrifices herself to save Jake’s life. Surprisingly, Mirror Kira doesn’t kill Jake once she learns that he’s Ben Sisko’s son. 😐
The episode concludes with Sisko and Jake saying goodbye to Jennifer as she dies in an infirmary bed. This is poetic imagery of Sisko’s wife dying again, but at least Sisko and Jake say goodbye to her.
‘Shattered Mirror’ is a pretty engaging episode featuring Sisko, Jake and the Mirror version of Jennifer. I enjoyed the action adventure in this episode as well as the heartfelt drama throughout it.
