‘BADDA-BING BADDA-BANG’ (DS9)
Please feel free to comment on my review.

This is a fun ‘DS9’ episode where most of the DS9 crew help Vic Fontaine with saving his hotel lounge in the holosuite. I enjoyed the episode as it was very feel-good that kept me on the edge of my seat.
James Darren is very good as Vic Fontaine in the episode. Apparently, according to my Mum, James Darren was in ‘The Time Tunnel’ TV series. I checked online and apparently it’s true! I was amazed. 🙂
In the episode, Bashir and O’Brien enjoy an evening in the holosuite at Vic Fontaine’s hotel lounge until suddenly, the lounge changes into a noisy cabaret. This was something completely unexpected.
Robert Miano as Frankie Eyes, a mobster and Vic’s longtime rival, turns up to throw Vic out. He announces he has bought the hotel. Bashir and O’Brien attempt to delete Frankie, but to no avail. 😐
It’s interesting how this holosuite program of Vic Fontaine becomes in peril when Frankie Eyes comes along. Bashir and O’Brien try all that they can with getting Vic’s lounge back to what it was. 🙂
It turns out that Frankie can only be eliminated by means that are appropriate to a 1960s Las Vegas setting. If the program was reset, it would result in Vic forgetting all the experiences that he has had.
Most of the DS9 crew are resolved to defeat Frankie within the simulation. As well as O’Brien and Bashir, there’s Odo, Kira, Ezri, Penny Johnson as Kasidy Yates and Aron Eisenberg as Nog helping out.
These characters are grateful to Vic for helping them during tough times. This includes Odo and Kira finding their love for each other as well as Nog getting over the big trauma he had with losing his leg.
Other DS9 members aren’t so willing to help, including Worf and Quark. It would have been nice if Worf and Quark contributed something in helping Vic get back his hotel lounge in the holosuite. 😦
Captan Sisko is also against helping out – at least at first! Initially, he dislikes the Vic Fontaine program due to the pervasive racism against black people that occurred in the real 1960s Las Vegas.
Kasidy wins Sisko around and he eventually agrees to help with getting Vic Fontaine’s hotel lounge back. Pretty soon, the Vic Fontaine group gather in his hotel room to form a plan to defeat Frankie. 🙂
As Kira and Odo befriend Frankie and his bodyguard, Mike Starr as Tony Cicci, they learn that Frankie works for Marc Lawrence as crime boss Carl Zeemo. He expects to get a share of the hotel profits. 😐
The Vic Fontaine group plan to rob the hotel casino the night before Zeemo arrives by breaking into the safe in Frankie’s count room. Thus hoping Zeemo will have Frankie ousted for not getting money.
The plan goes like this. Sisko will pose as a high roller to draw attention away from the count room. Kasidy will begin a fight with O’Brien in order to distract a security guard. Ezri will pose as a waitress.
She will bring the account in the court room a drugged martini, forcing him to leave the safe unattended. Nog will crack the safe, Odo will steal the many cash and Kira will be distracting Frankie.
What could possibly go wrong here? Actually, the plan does work out well in the end except the heist has some glitches along the way. This includes Nog discovering the lock on the safe is different.
Ezri finds the countman different to the one she’s expecting when she delivers him his martini. Fun fact, Robert O’Reilly (who’s credited Bobby Reilly here) guest stars as the countman in the episode. 🙂
Robert O’Reilly is known for playing Chancellor Gowron in ‘Star Trek’. It’s amazing that two actors like Robert O’Reilly and J.G. Hertzler in the previous episode get to play different characters in ‘DS9’.
Zeemo also arrives a day early. As Nog struggles to crack the safe, Vic and the others fabricate enough distractions to stall Zeemo and Frankie. Thankfully, Nog opens the safe and Odo steals cash.
Once Zeemo finds the safe empty, his thugs lead Franki and Cicci out of the casino! Vic’s lounge is restored to the way it was, and Vic get to take the stage where he and Sisko sing a duet together. 😀
I like how the episode ends with Vic and Sisko singing ‘The Best Is Yet to Come’ at the end. Overall, ‘Badda-Bing Badda-Bang’ is a great ‘DS9’ episode as it’s a lot of fun to watch featuring our heroes. 😀
