Lord Greystone and his Household with the First Doctor, Steven and Dodo
This story called ’64 Carlysle Street’ is by Gary Russell. It features the First Doctor, Steven and Dodo. This was an intriguing story to check out in the ‘More Short Trips’ anthology. It’s mainly told in the form of police reports given by Lord Greystone and certain members of his house in London, 1909. 🙂
Lord Geoffrey Greystone is the owner of the titular 64 Carlysle Street. He was married to Lady Edith Greystone until she died in 1906. They had a daughter named Annabel and something goes wrong when an alien being called Roztoq possesses her and the Doctor and his friends have to sort this out.
What’s interesting about Roztoq as the villain of this ‘Doctor Who’ story is that he’s a criminal who comes from the planet Quinnis. Quinnis was first mentioned in the story ‘The Edge of Destruction’, before it soon had its own Big Finish audio story called ‘Quinnis’, featuring the First Doctor and Susan.
The police reports themselves contain statements by certain characters, including Thomas Greene, a footman to Lord Greystone; Alice Fittle, the parlour maid to Lord Greystone; Lord Geoffrey Greystone himself; the kitchen maid Emily Trott; and Annabel Greystone, Lord Greystone’s daughter.
Matilda Jenkins, the scullery maid also gives a statement. The First Doctor, Steven and Dodo are well-handled as characters. Steven gets to be the Doctor’s chauffeur, Dodo gets to be a maid, and the Doctor happens to be a friend of Lord Greystone. It’s sad Mr. Golightly and Mrs. Doyle got killed off.
