‘LIONS AND BLIZZARDS’ (MMPR)

Please feel free to comment on my review.

This ‘Power Rangers’ episode begins with our five main heroes participating in the annual Oddball Games. The five teens are the Red Team whilst Bulk and Skull are the Blue Team. Seriously, what is it about Bulk and Skull that they’re very against the five teens? Are they really that annoyingly bully-like?

Oh, Bulk and Skull have Angela on their team. Angela is the one that Zack has fancied for most of Season 1. Why would she want to be on Bulk and Skull’s team against the five teens? Has she got a big problem with Zack? Anyway, the games finish with a tiebreaker. Mr. Caplan announces a tug of war. 😮

The tug of war of course is won by the five teens, and they win the Noble Lion Trophy. The trophy, of course, gets stolen by Bulk and Skull, as they take it without the Rangers noticing. Zack also helps Angela out from the mud, which she, Bulk and Skull fell into. Angela seems taken by Zack’s charm here.

Ah well, it doesn’t have to mean anything. It’s not like Angela asks Zack to take her out on a date… Oh wait, she does. No, seriously. Angela walks in, looks pretty and suggests that Zack take her out for a matinee. They eventually go to the cinema later. All this from Zack assisting her out of the mud? Hmm!

Meanwhile, Rita Repulsa seizes the trophy stolen by Bulk and Skull. She turns it into an evil monster called Goatan… because she can do that, I guess. 😐 Goatan is like a half-lion, half-goat Fuzor-like monster. Oh, and he can also create snowstorms and blizzards in Angel Grove. Bit random, but hey! 😀

The Rangers – Jason, Billy, Trini and Kimberly – are called in to help with stopping Goatan from causing chaos. Goatan becomes powerful for them, and the four Rangers are caught in a red tornado created by him. Alpha tries to contact Zack, who is busy trying to win over Angela, but fails very uncomfortably.

Soon, Zack responds and helps to save the other Rangers before they defeat Goatan with the Dino Megazord. I recall seeing this episode once on TV on a whim when it was shown on the Jetix channel in 2005. I also remember Zack getting popcorn dumped on his head by Angela after he had left her. 😀

Incidentally, when Bulk and Skull fell into the river after being scared out of their wits by Goatan once he appeared, they were covered in mud from the tug of war at the Oddball Games. Yet, when they return to the Juice Bar, dragged in by a policeman, they’re still soaked in mud. I find that rather unusual.

‘Lions and Blizzards’ (MMPR) rating – 8/10
