‘A STAR IS BORN’ (MMPR)

Please feel free to comment on my review.

‘A Star Is Born’ is an episode where Tommy gets to audition for a karate commercial in Angel Grove. It seems that Bulk is also going for an audition in the karate commercial, even though he’s not good at karate and he’s clearly clueless. Bulk should have taken more tips from Jason in his karate classes.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Rangers are enjoying a day at the beach. I found it amusing and slightly off-putting when Bulk decided to get a tan with Skull’s help. This is before he’s supposed to do the audition for the karate commercial. Bulk receives too much sun cream and mayonnaise from Skull. 😀

It’s a shame that the Rangers’ day at the beach gets ruined, since Goldar sends in Scorpina to attack them. By the way, Goldar has taken over the evil palace whilst Rita is having a day off. Yeah, I’d be pretty tired too like Rita if I were totally evil and petty-minded as her. Does Goldar do well as a ruler?

Well, it depends. Goldar has Scorpina sent in to trap the Rangers in a cocoon so that they can’t escape, and more than one monster gets used to attack the Rangers, especially when as giants, requiring the Rangers to summon their Zords. Fortunately, the Rangers are able to survive the fights.

The Zord fights are various. First, the Rangers fight off the monstrous Babe Ruthless, Goldar and Scorpina as giants in their individual Dinozords before Tommy shows up. Soon, the Rangers defeat Babe Ruthless when the Dinozords merge up with the Dragonzord to become the Dragon Megazord.

Scorpina then summons the second monster, which is a bug-like monster called Weaveworm. The Rangers combine all the Dinozords with the Dragonzord to become the Mega Dragonzord. Sometimes, I find it tricky to identify what the Megazords’ names officially are once the Zords merge together.

Anyway, the Rangers defeat Goldar and Scorpina’s monsters. And who is the winning entry in the karate commercial? Is it Bulk or Tommy? Well, it’s actually both. The commercial has Bulk as a bad example in karate whereas Tommy is a good example. A clever way to show both in the commercial.

Mind you, on reflection, the commercial just presents the auditions featuring Bulk and Tommy. I’m surprised the two weren’t asked to go and film their bits in the commercial at a TV studio or something. Mind you, this commercial could have been made in a hurry, so who am I to judge here?

‘A Star Is Born’ (MMPR) rating – 7/10
