‘THE SENIOR CITIZENS’ OUTING’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

Series 5 of ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ begins very well with a sunny episode at the seaside. Hyacinth, Richard and Elizabeth volunteer in a senior citizens’ outing from the local church. They go off on a trip to the seaside which is organised by Jeremy Gittins as the Vicar and Marion Barron as his wife. 🙂

I greatly enjoyed this episode from Series 5. It was a while since I last saw ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ from Series 4 to Series 5. It was great to see Series 5 begin on a sunny note. However, Hyacinth, Richard and Elizabeth with Mrs. Lomax and Mr Farrini aren’t with the Vicar’s party during their trip.

I would have thought Hyacinth, Richard or Elizabeth would query where the Vicar and everyone else were during their seaside trip. Perhaps the Vicar and everyone else have been on the beach all this time whilst Hyacinth, Richard, Elizabeth, Mrs. Lomax and Mr. Farrini were at the fun fair in the episode. 😐

Angus Lennie guest stars as Mr. Farrini, an amorous elderly Italian who fancies Hyacinth in the episode. Angus Lennie has been in two ‘Doctor Who’ stories, including ‘The Ice Warriors’ and ‘Terror of the Zygons’. He also played Badger, Kilwillie’s butler in Series 4 and 5 of ‘Monarch of the Glen’. 😀

Rita Davies guest stars as Mrs. Lomax, a very motion-sickness-prone woman. It was funny when Mrs. Lomax looked out-of-sorts and she seemed to have only one line where she said she was ‘sick’. But after a while, she seemed to enjoy eating ice creams and candy floss at the fun fair in the episode. 😀

It was funny to see Hyacinth and Mr. Farrini having rides and enjoying being at the fun fair in the episode. This included riding dodgem cars, going in the fun house and riding on the ghost train. It was funny when Mrs. Lomax joined Hyacinth and Mr. Farrini in the fun house, but became ill afterwards.

Derek Waring (Shardovan from ‘Castrovalva’) guest stars as Mr. Cooper-Bassett. He and his wife (I don’t know who plays her) have come to the fun fair to celebrate their wedding anniversary. It was funny when they tried to avoid meeting Hyacinth, but she was aboard the ghost train ahead of them.

Onslow, Daisy and Rose were meant to bring Daddy for the seaside trip, but Daddy had already gone by the time they woke up that morning. It was funny when they turned up at the church to tell Hyacinth what happened to Daddy and when they reported Daddy’s disappearance to the police. 😀

‘The Senior Citizens’ Outing’ rating – 9/10
