‘SINGING FOR EMMET’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

This episode has Hyacinth trying to impress Emmet with her singing when he goes to play the piano for the old people at the local church hall. Emmet wants to avoid that since he doesn’t like Hyacinth taking charge. But Elizabeth tells Hyacinth where they are going since she can’t lie and it goes wrong.

This isn’t really one of my favourite episodes from Series 2 of ‘Keeping Up Appearances’. There’s something lacking from this episode. It was painful to see when Hyacinth was singing badly and was being demanding to Emmet as he plays the piano, getting on his nerves. Soon he loses his temper. 🙁

In the episode, Richard has an offer of early retirement from his place of work. I guess his colleagues don’t want Richard working with them anymore since he gets constantly interrupted by Hyacinth on the telephone at work. Richard is easily distracted and upset, whilst Hyacinth is overjoyed about it. 😐

Jeremy Gittins returns as the Vicar in the episode whilst Marion Barron returns to play his wife. It’s made clear that the Vicar’s wife is easily jealous since he attracts the ladies at his church. She tells him to ‘keep away’ from them. It was amusing when he tried to avoid one lady – the Bucket woman.

Rose also recovers from a break-up with one of her gentleman friends. She decides to convert herself into a nun, by wearing a black veil and black clothes but still be in her mini-skirt. Rose also takes tranquiliser tablets to slow her. It doesn’t lower her hormones when she goes to find the Vicar.

It was funny when Hyacinth and Richard tried to keep Rose on her feet whilst she was already going down on her knees. Hyacinth and Richard try to hide her away in a cupboard. But she soon falls herself on Emmet before falling herself on the Vicar, which the Vicar’s wife witnesses and is shocked.

I did enjoy it when Onslow and Daisy were busily occupied with their own activities whilst Rose tries to get their attention when being a ‘figure in black’. Onslow is watching the TV whilst Daisy’s reading a book. Rose asks them their opinion on how she looks, but Onslow and Daisy don’t take any notice.

I also found it funny when Emmet tried to push Liz’s car quietly out of their drive in order to avoid being spotted or heard by Hyacinth. But Hyacinth is returning home when she sees Emmet pushing Liz’s car. How Liz and Emmet didn’t know that Hyacinth would be out before they left, I don’t know.

‘Singing For Emmet’ rating – 6/10
