‘LET THERE BE LIGHT’
Please feel free to comment on my review.

The Series 4 finale of ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ is decent. I enjoyed watching it, since it has Hyacinth and Richard attending the church hall to help out with ‘the bring and buy’ sale. Also, Hyacinth has volunteered Richard’s services to fix the church hall’s electrics, stating he’s an ‘expert’ on electrics. 😐
But it turns out that Richard is only good at fixing the Christmas tree lights back home. Richard should have been honest with the Vicar and his wife, saying that he’s not an expert on electrics. But no! He goes in to try and fix the electrics himself. It doesn’t go to plan once the church hall blows up.
Daddy also dresses up in his old war outfit, believing to be back in the war and talking to Colonel Dawlish. Onslow, Daisy and Rose see Daddy in his entranced state and decide to take him to the church for the Vicar to sort out in exorcising Colonel Dawlish. Hyacinth is shocked once they turn up.
I found it funny when Hyacinth volunteered to wait for an important lady to turn up by staying outdoors. Emmet and Marion Barron as the Vicar’s wife are very keen on the idea for Hyacinth to stay outside. Liz offers to stay with Hyacinth, but she’s told by her that she’s not wearing a hat. Huh?
Hyacinth soon meets the important lady, Sue Lloyd as Mrs. Drummond. Mrs. Drummond asks Hyacinth to take care of her fierce-looking dogs. 😀 It was very funny when the two dogs barked at her one she tapped against the car window. Onslow has also brought his dog who barks at Hyacinth.
At the beginning of the episode, there’s a scene where Hyacinth says goodbye to Sheridan. We don’t get to see Sheridan at all. I know this is meant to be a Mrs. Mainwaring routine like in ‘Dad’s Army’, but surely Sheridan should be seen, since Violet, Hyacinth’s other sister, would be seen in Series 5. 😐
David Janson also appears as the postman in the episode. There’s also Pamela Abbot as a car driver, who, with her friend, tries to run Hyacinth over when they arrive at the church hall. George Webb also returns to play Daddy in the episode; although he doesn’t get any dialogue whilst watching him.
I liked those scenes between Richard and Jeremy Gittins as the Vicar when they’re down in the cellar with the electrics. I also liked the climactic scene where Richard, the Vicar, Emmet and Onslow are together and they begin the countdown for Richard to switch on the lights. But it all ends in disaster.
‘Let There Be Light’ rating – 7/10
