‘FAWLTY CAR’

Please feel free to comment on my review.

I saw this ‘Specsavers’ advert back in January 2016. It has John Cleese reprise his role of Basil Fawlty from ‘Fawlty Towers’. Being a ‘Fawlty Towers’ fan, I’d be mad to miss out seeing this! I found it very funny indeed! I even shared it as Day 6 of my ‘Bradley’s Basement’s Advent Calendar’ in December 2016. 🙂

I wondered what became of Basil Fawlty since ‘Fawlty Towers’ ended in 1979. Seeing him in this ‘Specsavers’ advert was fantastic! Basil has put on weight since, but he’s still the rude, bad-mannered man we know and love. I’m glad John Cleese agreed to appear in this ‘Specsavers’ advert.

The sketch in the advert is based on the famous car-beating scene that Basil did from one of my favourite ‘Fawlty Towers’ episode called ‘Gourmet Night’. There’s a twist at the end of the sketch, which was completely unexpected, but it was so funny to watch. John Cleese as Basil did it so well. 🙂

‘Fawlty Towers’ remains one of my favourite BBC TV sitcoms with John Cleese as Basil Fawlty. It’s a shame ‘Fawlty Towers’ only did two seasons in the 1970s, but it was great to see Basil again in this video clip and being funny as ever. If you’re a ‘Fawlty Towers’ fan like me, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this! 🙂

‘Fawlty Car’ is a very enjoyable sketch featuring Basil Fawlty in a ‘Specsavers’ advert. I still remain a ‘Fawlty Towers’ fan and continue to enjoy watching the twelve episodes when I can. I gain inspiration from ‘Fawlty Towers’, especially when I wrote my ‘Doctor Who’ story ‘The Space Hotel’. 🙂

Below are two behind-the-scenes videos in this YouTube playlist by me about ‘Fawlty Car’, including ‘The Making of Fawlty Car’ and a John Cleese interview.

‘Fawlty Car’ rating – 10/10
