‘The Thirteen+ Doctors’, Part III: ‘The Legacy of the Doctor’, Chapter 23

Chapter 23

SCENE #227 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
Back in the Sphere Room, the thirteen Doctors and their friends struggle to separate the spatial locations from their temporal states in the interdimensional zones.

DOCTOR 4
(exasperated) Not even our friends outside the maelstrom were enough to help us.

DOCTOR 11
(annoyed) I thought this would be easy. Clearly, it’s harder than we thought.

DOCTOR 1
The mental energies we’ve accumulated so far aren’t enough to manipulate what’s in the interdimensional zones.

DOCTOR 2
Oh dear. This is something we don’t need, especially when Time isn’t on our side.

DOCTOR 3
I thought we were winning. I hoped we’d do this before we have slices of cake.

JO
I think most of us feel like that.

ACE
(determined) We can’t give up now. Come on, we’re still able to access the interdimensional zones – both inside and outside the Sphere Room.

JAMIE
Aye, all we need to do is call up more friends to help us.

ZOE
Supposing they won’t come, Jamie. Not all of the Doctor’s friends might be able to hear us.

DOCTOR 13
There’s something else we can try. An element of risk involved once again, but…

DOCTOR 10
(interrupts; impatiently) Come on, let’s not babble away! Tell us what the idea is.

DOCTOR 13
We need to telepathically connect again in order to send another message out of the maelstrom and into space. Except this time, we send it to other incarnations of us that aren’t with us in the maelstrom.

DOCTOR 6
That suits me fine. I’m sure I speak for all of the Doctors present.

DOCTOR 7
Let’s hope this second message we send out will be worth it.

DOCTOR 13
Oh it will. Trust me, Doctors, it will.

DOCTOR 1
Let’s all establish contact with each other again then. Hmm?

DOCTOR 13
Right.

DOCTORS
(focuses; in unison) Contact!

Information buzzes between the thirteen Doctors, as they share minds with each other again.

DOCTOR 13 (V’O)
(focuses) Okay, I think we’ve all got the crux of the message, haven’t we?

DOCTOR 2 (V’O)
(focuses) Well, I…

DOCTOR 1 (V’O)
(interrupts; focuses) I’d like to know what you meant by…

DOCTOR 13 (V’O)
(interrupts; focuses) Ssh, no time to explain. You’ll forget the information I’m not supposed to share with you anyway once we’re finished here.

DOCTOR 3 (V’O)
(focuses) But incarnations of ourselves…?

DOCTOR 13 (V’O)
(interrupts; urgently; focuses) Come on! Let’s send out this message into space as quickly as we can.

The Thirteenth Doctor begins to send out their next message with the other Doctors helping her.

SCENE #228A – EXT – MAELSTROM – N/A

DOCTOR 13 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) Hello! Hello, this is the Doctor again…

DOCTOR 1 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …This is a message to any Doctors past and future…

DOCTOR 2 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …If you can hear us…

DOCTOR 3 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …please listen. We need…

DOCTOR 4 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …all the extra support we can get…

DOCTOR 5 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …in order to restore balance in the Multiverse…

DOCTOR 6 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) ….whilst using the Gallifreyan interdimensional manipulator….

SCENE #228B – EXT – OUTER SPACE – N/A

DOCTOR 7 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …If any of you past…

DOCTOR 8 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …and future Doctors can establish contact…

DOCTOR 9 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …as well as provide the telepathic energy we need…

DOCTOR 10 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …that would be much appreciated. You should be able to…

DOCTOR 11 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …by simply reaching out to us…

DOCTOR 12 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) …using your mind.

SCENE #228C – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A

DOCTOR 13 (V’O)
(focuses; calls) Please help us.

DOCTORS (V’O)
(focuses; in unison) We need all the help we can get.

As the thirteen Doctors send out their message into space…

BILLY
Nyssa, if we can’t get more friends of the Doctors to help us out, does that mean that…?

NYSSA
(interrupts) Yes, Billy. I presume we’re going to have more Doctors make contact with us.

BRIGADIER
More Doctors?! As if thirteen weren’t enough.

KATE
This should be interesting.

Eventually, the thirteen Doctors break out of their telepathic contact with each other.

DOCTOR 5
(realises) Wait, everyone, stop! Listen. (Pause) I think we’re receiving something.

DOCTOR 8
(realises) Yes, Doctor, you’re right. We must be receiving contact from past and future Doctors.

DOCTOR 13
(cheers) Well done, Doctors! Thank goodness we’ve had a response. (Pause; realises) Wait, I recognise this one.

DOCTOR 1
Why, who is this woman? Hmm?

The first of the Doctors outside the maelstrom comes through.

FUGITIVE DOCTOR (V’O)
Hello, mate. I’m the Doctor. I heard you’re having a spot of bother. Just as well I showed up.

DOCTOR 1
(intrigued) Indeed it is. Pleasure to make your acquaintance, dear lady.

DOCTOR 11
(realises) Wait! I recognise another one joining us. Captain Grumpy, isn’t it?

WAR DOCTOR (V’O)
You’re lucky I’ve come at all. Especially as I’ve stopped renouncing my title and have become the Doctor again.

DOCTOR 10
(puzzled) Really? I don’t understand.

DOCTOR 12
Spoilers, as River would say.

DONNA
(realises) Doctor, there’s another you joining us. Another you who looks like you, I mean.

DOCTOR 10
Donna, what are you talking about…? (trials off; realises) Wait! What?!

DOCTOR 14 (V’O)
(cheerily) Hello, everyone. I’m here to help. Yes, I know. I look like him in the future. Trust me, Doctor, it’ll become clear once you get to be me.

DOCTOR 10
What?!!

DOCTOR 15 (V’O)
And it’ll become clearer after I become him. Trust me too. I know what’s going on here.

DOCTOR 10
WHAT?!!!

DONNA
(annoyed) Stop going “What?!” like that!

BILL
(astonished) Was that a black Doctor I just saw?

BARBARA
Who’s that girl with him?

RUBY (V’O)
(cheerily) Hi! I’m Ruby. I don’t know any of you, but it’s nice to meet you all.

JEN
I guess she’s a future friend of yours, Doctor.

DARBY
(realises) Hold on, is that…? (Pause) Doctor, that’s another you! Another you but…older!

DOCTOR 4
So it is, James. (laughs) Good heavens! I never forget a face!

CURATOR (4) (V’O)
(laughs) I know you don’t, Doctor. In years to come, you might find yourself revisiting a few old faces.

CURATOR (6) (V’O)
But just the old favourites, wouldn’t you say? Hmm?

PERI
(realises) Doctor, that was another you we just saw. He’s older too. They’re dressed up like…well…

DOCTOR 6
Museum curators, yes. Perhaps that’s how I end up, Peri. A museum curator in the future.

DOCTOR 11
Ooh, wouldn’t that be exciting? I rather fancy that. A museum curator in the future.

AMY
Dunno why, but I never thought of you as a retiring type, Raggedy Man.

RORY
Me neither. Especially with the life you lead.

DOCTOR 13
(interrupts) Alright, everyone, listen up. I think it’s working. (Pause) Yes! I believe we’re getting there!

BRIGADIER
You’ve managed to separate the spatial locations from their temporal states in the zones then.

DOCTOR 10
Oh yes, Brigadier! Yes, we have! We sense the separation process underway.

DOCTOR 5
Things are working in our favour after all.

DOCTOR 13
Thanks to our past and future selves who’ve just pitched in.

SCENE #229A – EXT – LONDON/NEW YORK (2023) (ZONE #6) – DAY, MORNING
A montage occurs where the times and places in the interdimensional zones of the network are beginning to separate from each other. First, in zone #6, London 2023 and New York 2023 disengage.

SCENE #229B – EXT – ISLAND (1863/2563) (ZONE #1) – NIGHT
In zone #1, the island’s 1863 and 2563 time zones disengage.

SCENE #229C – EXT – CASTLE/COUNTRYSIDE (1973+1983/1173+1183) (ZONE #2) – DAY, EVENING
In zone #2, the castle and the countryside’s 1973, 1983, 1173 and 1183 time zones disengage.

SCENE #229D – EXT – VILLAGE/WOODS, ENGLISH COUNTRYSIDE (1993/2013) (ZONE #3) – DAY/NIGHT
In zone #3, the bakeries, the village and the woods in the English countryside’s 1993 and 2013 time zones disengage.

SCENE #229E – EXT – EGYPT (1963/2033) (ZONE #4) – DAY AFTERNOON
In zone #4, Egypt in 1963 and Egypt in 2033 disengage.

SCENE #229F – EXT – AFRICA/INDIA (2003/2163) (ZONE #5) – NIGHT/DAY, MORNING
And in zone #5, Africa in 2003 and India in 2164 disengage.

SCENE #230 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A

SUSAN
(realises) Grandfather, I see… (cheers) Yes! The island’s time zones in zone one are separating from each other. I can sense and see it in my mind.

JAMIE
Aye, I see it too. Funny how that works whilst we’re inside these boxes.

JO
(realises) Doctor, the four time zones in zone two are also separating from each other.

ACE
Jo’s right, Professor. It’s as if there are four versions of the same castle and countryside in zone two.

DOCTOR 3
I think we can say the trick worked for the other zones in the interdimensional network.

Just then, a terrible shuddering occurs.

DOCTOR 7
(realises) Ah, I was afraid this might happen.

DARBY
(anxiously) What’s happening? Doctor, why is the place shuddering so violently?

DOCTOR 4
Now that we’ve separated the interdimensional zones’ times and places from each other; the network’s stability is crumbling at a faster rate.

BRIGADIER
Can you send everything back to the way they were straight away, Doctors?

KATE
We don’t want to be crushed to a singularity instantly, like you said.

DOCTOR 6
Have no fear, Brigadier; Kate. We’re working as fast as we can.

PERI
Thanks to our friends and the other Doctors outside the Sphere Room, we should have more luck.

OSGOOD
(realises) Captain Magambo, your soldiers that were watching Miss Francesca have fallen.

MAGAMBO
Yes. That must have happened when the shuddering occurred. (realises) Meaning that…

BENTON
(cries) There’s Miss Francesca! She’s making for one of the TARDIS force fields!

MIKE
She’s trying to find a way out.

DOCTOR 5
For all the good that will do her.

MAGAMBO
(barks) Phillips, Khan, Jenkins! Re-apprehend Miss Francesca immediately!

PHILLIPS
Yes, ma’am.

KHAN
It won’t be easy with the place shaking apart.

JENKINS
(determined) But we shall carry out your orders. (to Phillips; Khan) Come on, you two! After her!

Phillips, Khan and Jenkins get up to pursue Francesca with the place shuddering violently around them.

BILLY
Looks like she’s reached one of the force fields.

NYSSA
She’s trying to smash her way through.

Francesca approaches one of the TARDIS force fields and strikes her fist at it. Once struck, the force field buzzes with energy and she cries out in pain.

DOCTOR 10
(cries) Francesca, please listen! Don’t force your way out!

DONNA
(cries) You’ll get yourself injured trying to punch through an invisible wall.

FRANCESCA
(in pain; determined) I won’t stay here! I must get out! I must warn the Dark Lord Salvador!

JEN
(anxiously) Err, Doctor, we’ve got big problems coming our way.

DOCTOR 8
What do you mean, Jen?

ROSE
(anxiously) I see what she’s getting at. Look, everyone! Trouble’s come back!

BARBARA
(anxiously) Oh no!

IAN
Salvador and the Valeyard are back.

DOCTOR 12
You’re right, Beatle Haircut. Time is not on our side.

Salvador and the Valeyard approach.

VALEYARD
(amused) Well, well. What have you Doctors been up to while we’ve been away?

SALVADOR
(angrily) You dare defy us in our absence! We shall crush your opposition!

FRANCESCA
(overjoyed) My dear Dark Lord Salvador! (anxiously) The Doctors and their friends. They’ve gained access to the interdimensional zones. They’ve separated the times and places in the zones from each other. They’re attempting to restore everything back to its original location…

SALVADOR
(shouts; angrily) Silence, woman! Enough babbling!

Instantly, Salvador waves his hand, erasing Francesca from existence. She screams out loud in agony, though there’s a hint of a teleport that nobody notices whilst she fades from existence. Everyone else, except the Valeyard, is shocked. The violent shuddering continues in the background.

BILL
(shocked) Did you just…kill that woman?

AMY
(shocked) What did you do that for?! She was your servant and you just…waved your hand at her and got rid of her.

SALVADOR
She served her purpose. And she was grating on my ears. I could erase her from existence once in close proximity to her. She might have felt safe enough to speak out, because she was behind one of the Doctors’ TARDIS force fields. However, there is no hiding place from my wrath. Not for her, or for any of you.

ACE
(angrily) You toerag! You’re gonna pay for what you did.

VALEYARD
(scoffs) Oh come now. It’s not like she was your friend. She betrayed you.

DARBY
(angrily) You just wait till I get over there and punch you, mate!

DOCTOR 4
James, calm down.

PHILLIPS
Sorry, Captain.

KHAN
We didn’t get to her in time.

JENKINS
The violent shuddering didn’t help us either.

MAGAMBO
Be careful, you three. Make sure Salvador doesn’t erase you either.

SALVADOR
As I said before, I can erase people from existence when in close proximity to them. A distance away, not so.

VALEYARD
It’s unfortunate the rest of you can’t be erased by Salvador in an instant. That will change once we break down one of the TARDIS force fields.

BRIGADIER
Was Miss Francesca ever a descendant of me and my daughter?

KATE
Yes, tell us. Was she really a Lethbridge-Stewart?

SALVADOR
As if that matters. She was a tool we needed to lure you all into a false sense of security.

VALEYARD
She outlived her usefulness.

JO
(angrily) You’re monsters, the pair of you! You’re so horrid!

SALVADOR
(shouts; bitterly) No! The Doctor is the monster! All of them!

VALEYARD
We shall see to it that the Doctors are destroyed. The guilty verdict has been reached.

The Valeyard takes out his temporal manipulator device and holds it in his hands.

DOCTOR 7
(realises) Oh no! The Valeyard has a temporal manipulator. With that device…

DOCTOR 6
…He’ll be able to break through one of the TARDIS force fields quite easily in about…oh…ten minutes.

DOCTOR 9
We’ll have to work fast.

DOCTOR 2
We can’t waste time. Our next task is even trickier.

DOCTOR 13
(determined) Everyone, concentrate! All of us in the cubicles and everyone outside the Sphere Room!

DOCTOR 10
We need to put everything back in their times and places. There’s a lot of mental effort involved for this…

DOCTOR 5
…But it can be done. Be strong, everyone. Don’t lose focus.

VALEYARD
(goads) You’re forgetting, Doctors. Some of the times and places in the interdimensional zones are from other Universes. They can’t be put back if they’re not from our Universe.

SALVADOR
(triumphantly) Yes! You’ve failed before you even started. You might as well give up.

VALEYARD
(goads) Already the maelstrom’s destabilisation is worsening by the second.

SCENE #231 – EXT – MAELSTROM – N/A
The maelstrom’s interior is more unstable than ever. It’s shrinking down to size with Salvador’s base and the interdimensional network still inside it.

SCENE #232 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A

DOCTOR 3
You should know, Salvador, we’re not one for giving up so easily.

DOCTOR 13
And there’s a way for us to put everything back to where and when they were in all Universes.

VALEYARD
(intrigued) Really? Enlighten us, Doctor. What did you have in mind?

DOCTOR 13
(cheerily) Simple really. We contact the Doctors and their friends in the other Universes. We ask them nicely to help us out.

SALVADOR
(realises; angrily) NO!!! You cannot do that, Doctors! You can’t!

DOCTOR 10
Why not? You and the Valeyard were able to pluck us Doctors and our friends out of Space and Time.

DOCTOR 5
Therefore, we should be able to make contact with the Doctors and their friends in the other Universes to help us put everything back the way they were.

DOCTOR 13
Provided it’s not too late of course. Besides, we have our friends, both inside and outside the Sphere Room, as well as past and future Doctors who’ve helped us so far with the telepathic energies we need to give us that extra boost and make contact with other Universes.

BILLY
(feels hopeful) So, that’s one to us, isn’t it?

NYSSA
(happily) Yes, Billy, it definitely is.

VALEYARD
(shouts) Desist, Doctor! We command you to desist!

DOCTOR 1
(determined) Never, sir! Never! We won’t adhere to your will!

DOCTOR 2
You put us in these cubicles! It’s your fault for thinking you could control us!

DOCTOR 3
Whereas we’re in control of the situation to ensure restoration.

DOCTOR 4
Not just for our Universe, of course.

DOCTOR 8
But for every Universe you’ve put at risk here today.

DOCTOR 9
Now if you’ll excuse us, we have other Doctors in other Universes to call on.

DOCTOR 6
Let’s take it away, Doctors.

DOCTOR 7
Yes! Let’s send out our message to everyone who can hear it in other Universes.

DOCTOR 13
(wearily) This will be more challenging though, Doctors. We need the mental energies of everyone inside and outside the Sphere Room to send our message to the Doctors and friends in other Universes.

DOCTOR 12
But it should be doable.

DOCTOR 11
Provided our friends are willing to take the chance.

YAZ
(determined) We are. We’re with you all the way.

DAN
I’m sure everyone is on the same wavelength, Doctors.

SUSAN
(joyously) Grandfather, I sense everyone who is your friend inside and outside the Sphere Room. They want to help. Your past and future selves are willing too.

DOCTOR 1
(pleased) Good. That’s good, my child.

BRIGADIER
U.N.I.T. is here to help too, Doctors.

KATE
It’s the least we can do after all you’ve done for us.

DOCTOR 13
(pleased) Excellent! Let’s get started.

SALVADOR
(cries; angrily) No! NO, NO!!!! STOP!!! STOP!!!

DOCTOR 13
(ignores Salvador) Right, Doctors!

DOCTORS
(focuses; in unison) Contact!

Information buzzes between the thirteen Doctors, as they share minds with each other and link minds with their friends and the past and future Doctors inside and outside the Sphere Room.

DOCTOR 13 (V’O)
(focuses) Right. We’ve all linked minds. Time to send out our message across the Multiverse. (clears throat; calls) Hello! Hello, Doctors in other Universes! Can you hear us…?

As the Thirteenth Doctor starts to send out the message across the Multiverse…

SALVADOR
(impatiently) Valeyard, get started on breaking through one of the TARDIS force fields! Use your temporal manipulator immediately!

Salvador shoves the Valeyard.

VALEYARD
(slightly annoyed) Don’t push me! I’m working as fast as I can.

The Valeyard applies his temporal manipulator to one of the TARDIS force fields and switches it on. The temporal manipulator buzzes away with a terrible shrieking noise, as he and Salvador start to break through one of the TARDIS force fields.

SCENE #233 – INT – TARDIS (N/A) (DR. WHO’S UNIVERSE)
In one of the other Universes, Dr. Who, his granddaughters Susan and Barbara, and Ian, Barbara’s boyfriend, have received the thirteen Doctors’ message aboard TARDIS, their time and space machine. TARDIS’ operation systems go off with warning alarms.

SUSAN (DM)
Grandfather, what’s happening? What are these voices we’re hearing?

DR, WHO (DM)
I’ve no idea, Susie. But certainly some people need our help. And I’m not one to ignore a distress call.

IAN (DM)
Is that wise, Dr. Who? We must be sharing a similar hallucination, all four of us.

BARBARA (DM)
TARDIS isn’t reacting well. It’s almost as if she’s overloading.

DR, WHO (DM)
Don’t worry, Ian; Barbara. TARDIS can withstand anything. (Pause) Come now, you three. Let’s put our minds to it and answer whoever’s calling for assistance.

SCENE #234 – INT – TARDIS (N/A) (UNBOUND DOCTOR 3’S UNIVERSE)
Meanwhile, in another Universe, the Third Doctor and his companion Professor Bernice Summerfield receive the same message in their TARDIS.

BENNY
(realises) Doctor, I see Ace! And two other Doctors I used to travel with. This message must be coming from my Universe.

UNBOUND DOCTOR 3
Debate on the ethics of the situation later, Summerfield. Right now, we have to respond quickly.

SCENE #235 – INT – TARDIS (N/A) (UNBOUND DOCTOR 4’S UNIVERSE)
In another Universe, the Fourth Doctor and his friends Jenny and Jimmy receive the thirteen Doctors’ message in their TARDIS.

UNBOUND DOCTOR 4 (SKTD)
Well, it seems our help is required. We should answer the distress call immediately.

JIMMY (SKTD)
Do we have to? We’re supposed to be making for the planet Vega.

JENNY (SKTD)
Jimmy, we can’t ignore a summons for help. We should answer it.

UNBOUND DOCTOR 4 (SKTD)
Quite right, Jenny my dear. Come on, you two. Let’s put our minds to it.

SCENE #236 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
Back in the Sphere Room aboard Salvador’s base in the Prime Universe…

SUSAN
(delighted) Grandfather, it’s working! A few Doctors and their friends from other Universes have answered. I can sense them in my mind.

DOCTOR 1
Yes, dear, so can I. I sense and hear them in my mind! We’re making progress at last!

DOCTOR 8
I recognise someone in one of those Universes. (realises) It’s Benny! Bernice Summerfield! How did she get there?

JEN
Is she one of your friends then?

DOCTOR 8
Yes, though she travelled with him first.

DOCTOR 7
(intrigued) Really? Well, that’s interesting to know.

IAN
Is that supposed to be you and me in one of those Universes, Barbara?

BARBARA
I believe so, Ian. They don’t look like us at all, do they?

SUSAN
That’s nothing compared to me. I look young in that Universe.

DOCTOR 3
I think I end up as that Doctor in that Universe with those two young friends of his.

DOCTOR 4
(forlorn) Replacing dear old me it seems.

DARBY
Nobody can replace you, Doctor.

DOCTOR 13
(frustrated) Can we all concentrate please? The strain is getting too much in these cubicles.

BRIGADIER
(anxiously) I think we might have bigger problems to worry about.

KATE
Salvador and the Valeyard are about halfway through one of your TARDIS force fields, Doctor.

Salvador and the Valeyard keep on penetrating through one of the TARDIS force fields. The Valeyard’s temporal manipulator device shrieks loudly, and the violent shuddering around the base persists.

BENTON
(anxiously) The violent shuddering is getting stronger, Doctors.

OSGOOD
I thought it was just me that thought that.

MIKE
(anxiously) I’m not sure if we’re going to achieve our mission in time.

MAGAMBO
(barks) Phillips; Khan and Jenkins. Keep holding the fort. Be prepared should Salvador and the Valeyard break through.

PHILLIPS
Yes, ma’am.

KHAN
Understood.

JENKINS
We’ll try to keep a protective shield between us and the cubicles.

VALEYARD
Don’t hold out much hope for that, gentlemen.

SALVADOR
Once the Valeyard and I are through, I shall erase you three in an instant.

Meanwhile, the Doctors and their friends continue to receive answers to their distress call.

NYSSA
(realises) Doctor, there’s someone else coming through. I see him in my mind.

BILLY
Me too. He’s becoming less faint and coming into focus.

DOCTOR 5
(realises) This person is familiar. It’s…

UNBOUND DOCTOR 5 (V’O)
(cheerfully) Hello, Doctor; Nyssa; Billy. Heard you needed help. Thought I’d pop by.

NYSSA
(realises) Doctor, it’s the Doctor we rescued when we had that business with Diamant

BILLY
Yeah, we rescued him as well as Adric, Erimem, Max and Sarah Jane to put back in their Universes.

DOCTOR 5
(pleased) Yes! Thank you for helping us again, Doctor. It’s much appreciated.

UNBOUND DOCTOR 5 (V’O)
(cheerfully) My pleasure. Must say, I wasn’t expecting to bump into you again so soon.

ROSE
(realises) Doctor, there’s two more people coming through. Is that a Doctor and his friend?

DOCTOR 9
Possibly, Rose. It’s who we want to come through, isn’t it?

ROSE
(realises) Hey! That Doctor’s friend’s got an engagement ring on her finger.

UNBOUND DOCTOR 9 (COFD) (V’O)
(cheerily) Greetings, everyone. How are things?

EMMA (COFD) (V’O)
Doctor, you said these Doctors and companions are from another Universe. How is this possible? How is it we’re able to meet them like this?

UNBOUND DOCTOR 9 (COFD) (V’O)
Don’t worry, Emma my dear. I’ll explain later.

DOCTOR 8
Is that how I end up in that Universe?

JEN
Seeing all these Doctors and companions from other Universes is giving me a headache.

UNBOUND DOCTOR 9 (SHALKA) (V’O)
(protests) You don’t end up like him, Doctor. You end up like me.

DOCTOR 8
(baffled) You? I end up like you?

UNBOUND DOCTOR 10 (COFD) (V’O)
Excuse me, you git! That’s my face you’re wearing.

UNBOUND DOCTOR 9 (SHALKA) (V’O)
No, that’s my face you’re wearing!

UNBOUND DOCTOR 10 (COFD) (V’O)
You’re more animated than me.

ROSE
Okay, I hate to break it to you, Jen, but I’m getting a headache too.

AMY
(realises) Look! There’s more Doctors coming through.

RORY
(astonished) Are they really Doctors from other Universes?

UNBOUND DOCTOR 11 (COFD) (V’O)
Oh bugger! I’m seeing too many girls here. It’s alright. As long as I don’t look at them.

UNBOUND DOCTOR 12 (COFD) (V’O)
Oh, don’t be like that, dear chap. You should be like me who has a way with the ladies.

UNBOUND DOCTOR 13 (COFD) (V’O)
No, no, you should be like me. I’m gorgeous after all. The Master said so.

DOCTOR 11
Apparently so, Rory. And they’ve come a long way to answer our call.

DOCTOR 12
It’s lucky we’ve got enough people from other Universes to help us out.

BILL
Is that all of them? Have all the Doctors from other Universes answered our call?

DOCTOR 13
(realises) Wait! There’s one more coming through.

YAZ
(intrigued) I wonder what this Doctor will be like.

Eager with anticipation, everyone sees the last Multiverse Doctor coming through.

DAN
(realises) ‘Ere, Doctor. Pinstripe Doctor. This Doctor that’s come through. He’s…

DOCTOR 10
(interjects; realises) Yes, I know. He looks like me.

DONNA
(flummoxed) What?! Another you who looks like you!

META-CRISIS DOCTOR (V’O)
Oh yes! I can’t ignore a summons for help whilst I’m in Pete’s world.

ROSE
(puzzled) Pete’s world?

DONNA
(flummoxed) What is it with some of these future and Multiverse Doctors that look like you, Spaceman?

DOCTOR 10
Dunno. But I sense this one isn’t as he seems.

DONNA
(slightly annoyed) What is that supposed to mean?

DOCTOR 10
I sense him not being just a Time Lord. He’s part-human too.

DONNA
What? Part-human? How can you sense that? And how is he part-human?

META-CRISIS DOCTOR (V’O)
Human biological meta-crisis. Long story. Don’t worry, Donna. It’ll make sense to you soon.

DOCTOR 13
(interjects) Doctors; everyone else. I think our telepathic contact with the Doctors and their friends from other Universes has paid off.

IAN
You mean…?

DOCTOR 1
Yes, Chesterton, my boy. We’re able to put things back to the way they were.

DOCTOR 2
All the spatial-temporal locations in the zones of the interdimensional network…

DOCTOR 3
…We can send them back to this Universe as well as other Universes.

BRIGADIER
(pleased) That’s excellent news, Doctors.

KATE
And just in time. Salvador and the Valeyard are almost through.

Whilst Salvador and the Valeyard are almost through, with the Valeyard’s temporal manipulator shrieking away loudly, the thirteen Doctors begin to send back the spatial-temporal locations from the zones of the interdimensional network back to where and when they came from.

DOCTOR 13
(cheerfully) Right then. London and New York in zone six…

DOCTOR 10
..Back to where you belong. Allon-sy!

DOCTOR 5
And hopefully all in one piece.

SCENE #237 – EXT – LONDON/NEW YORK (2023) (ZONE #6) – DAY, MORNING
In zone #6, London in 2023 and New York in 2023 gradually phase out, as they return to whence they originated, taking the Cybermen with them who groan away.

SCENE #238 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A

DOCTOR 1
Now for the island in both eighteen sixty-three and twenty-five sixty-three.

DOCTOR 2
Let’s hope this works just as well as with the spatial-temporal locations from zone six being sent back.

DOCTOR 7
We’d better take our turn too, Doctor.

DOCTOR 3
Right. (calls) Me, Jo and everyone else helping us in zone two. We’re to send the castle and the countryside in nineteen seventy-three and nineteen eighty-three back.

DOCTOR 7
(calls) And me, Ace and everyone else helping us in zone two. We’re to send the castle and the countryside in eleven seventy-three and eleven eighty-three back.

SCENE #239 – EXT – ISLAND (1863/2563) (ZONE #1) – NIGHT
In zone #1, the island in both 1863 and 2563 gradually phases out. Both aspects return to whence they originated, taking the Daleks with them. The Daleks scream, enraged.

COMMAND DALEK
(screams; enraged) NO! NO!!! EMERGENCY TEMPORAL SHIFT!!!

The Command Dalek manages to escape.

SCENE #240 – EXT – CASTLE (1973+1983/1173+1183) (ZONE #2) – DAY, EVENING
In zone #2, the castle and the countryside in 1973, 1983, 1173 and 1183 gradually phase out and return to whence they originated, taking the Autons with them.

AUTON #2
Connection to the Nestene lost.

AUTON #1
Confirmed. We are being sent back to whence we originated.

SCENE #241 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A

DOCTOR 4
Time for me, James and everyone else helping us to send the English countryside bakery, village and woods in twenty thirteen back.

DOCTOR 6
And time for me, Peri and everyone else helping us to send the English countryside bakery, village and woods in nineteen ninety-three back.

DOCTOR 8
(calls) Me, Jen and everyone else helping us. Time to send back Egypt in nineteen sixty-three.

DOCTOR 9
(calls) And me, Rose and everyone else helping us. Time to send back Egypt in twenty thirty-three.

SCENE #242 – EXT – VILLAGE, ENGLISH COUNTRYSIDE (1993/2013) (ZONE #3) – DAY/NIGHT
In zone #3, the bakeries, the village and the woods in the English countryside in 1993 and 2013 gradually phase out and return to whence they originated, taking the Sontarans with them.

GROUL
Be strong, my fellow Sontarans! We shall win to fight another day! (chants) Sonta-Ha!

GROUL + STUKK
(chants; in unison) Sonta-Ha! Sonta-Ha!

SONTARANS
(chants; in unison) Sonta-Ha! Sonta-Ha! [Sonta-Ha…]

SCENE #243 – EXT – DESERT, EGYPT (1963/2033) (ZONE #4) – DAY AFTERNOON
In zone #4, Egypt in 1963 and Egypt in 2033 gradually phase out, returning to whence they originated, and taking the Osirian robot mummies with them.

SCENE #244 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A

DOCTOR 11
(happily) And finally me, Amy, Rory and others will send India twenty-one sixty-four back.

DOCTOR 12
And me, Bill and the others will send Africa in two thousand and three back.

SCENE #245 – EXT – AFRICA/INDIA (2003/2163) (ZONE #5) – NIGHT/DAY, MORNING
And in zone #5, Africa in 2003 and India in 2164 gradually phase out, returning to whence they originated, and taking the Zygons with them.

STROMOS
(snarls) It seems our chance never came, Commander. We never got to be on the outside after all.

KOSOL
(snarls) We promise, Doctor. The Zygons will be back! We shall have our vengeance!

SCENE #246 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A
In the Sphere Room aboard Salvador’s base, there is silence among the thirteen Doctors and their friends for quite a while.

YAZ
(anxiously) Did it work? Have we sent everything back?

DAN
Did we achieve our goal, Doctors?

Another moment of silence.

DOCTOR 2
(pleased) Yes! Yes, I believe it worked!

DOCTOR 12
We’ve sent every spatial-temporal location that was in the interdimensional zones back to the Universes they came from.

Everyone in their cubicles cheers.

BRIGADIER
(pleased) Splendid work, Doctors. Well done, everyone.

KATE
(anxiously) Is that it though, Doctors? Have we achieved everything we wanted?

DOCTOR 9
Not quite, Kate.

DOCTOR 8
There’s one more thing we need to do before we finish here.

MIKE
(realises; cries) Doctors! Salvador and the Valeyard!

BENTON
They’ve broken through.

Salvador and the Valeyard break through one of the TARDIS force fields and enter. Phillips, Khan and Jenkins train their rifles on the two villains.

VALEYARD
(triumphantly) At last! We have broken through!

MAGAMBO
Phillips; Khan; Jenkins, don’t let those two advance further.

SALVADOR
And we’ll just take your guns away.

At a wave of Salvador’s hand, Phillips, Khan and Jenkins’ rifles are erased from existence. The three U.N.I.T. soldiers are shocked.

BAMBERA
(shocked) He… He just erased those soldiers’ guns like…I dunno…a wizard.

DOCTOR 7
(reassuringly) Try not to panic, Winifred.

DOCTOR 5
(pleads) Salvador, please! Don’t erase the three soldiers.

DOCTOR 3
They were only doing their job.

SALVADOR
It matters not. Soon, you shall all be erased from existence.

VALEYARD
All you have achieved today will amount to nothing.

ACE
(bitterly) You scumbags!

JO
(upset) Surely there must be an ounce of compassion left in you.

NYSSA
We’ve been trying to secure the lives of everyone in every Universe.

BILLY
Admittedly, we’ve had help from people outside this base…

BARBARA
…But it’s more than what you two have done.

IAN
All you’ve done is cause chaos and make life miserable for everyone.

SUSAN
Everyone who’s against you knows how much pain and suffering you’re trying to make.

SALVADOR
(shouts; outraged) Silence! You speak blasphemy and disgusting words against the Almighty Salvador! I am Alpha and Omega! The beginning and the end!

DOCTOR 13
It’s over, Salvador. What you’ve tried to achieve today, we’ve outwitted you and the Valeyard.

DOCTOR 6
We’ve turned the tide against you. Like poor old Canute, you must retreat before the sea destroys your sandcastle.

VALEYARD
You still have one problem to resolve before you complete your opposition against us.

DOCTOR 1
We know that very well, you ruffian.

DOCTOR 10
All we have left to do is to shut down the interdimensional network.

DOCTOR 11
By doing that, it will break the links you’ve created from the times and places you absconded.

DOCTOR 4
From this Universe and every other Universe.

VALEYARD
Exactly. Even with the extra help you’ve acquired from outside the Sphere Room, you cannot hope to achieve your next task in record time.

SALVADOR
Not when we’re here to stop you at last.

DOCTOR 13
That’s not true, really. There is a way we can achieve our next and, we hope, final task.

VALEYARD
(intrigued) Indeed? Enlighten us, Doctors. What is this ‘way’ you have in mind?

DOCTOR 12
We need an extra boost of power in order to shut down the interdimensional network.

SALVADOR
And where pray do you hope to acquire that? Is there another one of your other selves up your sleeve?

DOCTOR 11
(gradually) As a matter of fact there is, Salvy boy. Most definitely, there is.

DOCTOR 13
Brigadier? Would you mind vacating your cubicle please?

BRIGADIER
(surprised) Vacating it? Are you sure that’s wise?

DOCTOR 7
Trust us, Brigadier. We have the support we need from inside and outside this base.

DOCTOR 8
We should be able to maintain the telepathic energy we’ve acquired long enough in order for you to vacate your cubicle.

BRIGADIER
Very well. If you insist.

The Brigadier vacates his cubicle by pushing the lid, which swings open. Stepping out of his cubicle, he stumbles a bit before he closes the lid slightly.

KATE
(concerned) Father, are you alright?

BRIGADIER
I’m fine, Kate. Really I am. (to Doctors) Sorry, Doctors. Feeling a bit stiff.

DOCTOR 5
(reassuringly) That’s alright, Brigadier.

DOCTOR 4
As long as you’re safely out of the cubicle, that’s the main thing.

SALVADOR
(scoffs) What is all this? What do you hope to achieve by enacting this charade?

DOCTOR 13
It’s quite simple. (calls) Valeyard…

DOCTOR 10
(interjects) We’d like you to take the Brigadier’s cubicle and join us.

DOCTOR 9
Yeah. Help us to shut down the interdimensional network.

A moment of silence, before the Valeyard laughs out loud.

VALEYARD
(laughs) Are you serious, Doctors?

DOCTOR 11
(sternly) Believe us, Valeyard.

DOCTOR 12
(sternly) We’ve never been more serious in all of our lives.

At that moment, the violent shuddering returns.

ZOE
(anxiously) Doctor, I thought we’d seen the last of the violent shuddering.

JAMIE
(anxiously) Aye, what’s happening? Why is everything shuddering again?

SUSAN
(realises) The maelstrom is still unstable. Isn’t that right, grandfather?

DOCTOR 1
I’m afraid so. Susan. We’ve sent mostly everything back to whence they originated.

DOCTOR 2
But the links connected to the interdimensional network are still prevalent. If we don’t shut down the interdimensional network…

DOCTOR 3
…The maelstrom will close permanently. We’re likely to be crushed to a singularity in an instant whilst being trapped here.

DARBY
(groans) Great! Just when things couldn’t get any worse.

SCENE #247 – EXT – MAELSTROM – N/A
In the maelstrom, the opening to outer space shrinks further, as the violent shuddering persists.

SCENE #248 – INT – SPHERE ROOM, ENEMY BASE – N/A

DOCTOR 7
Well, Valeyard? How about it?

VALEYARD
(scoffs) How about what?

DOCTOR 8
How about assisting us to save every Universe? Isn’t that worthwhile?

DOCTOR 11
Help us to shut down the interdimensional network.

VALEYARD
(laughs) You must think me a fool. I shall not abide by your wishes.

DOCTOR 13
(firmly) Please, Valeyard. We’re asking nicely.

DOCTOR 10
Don’t miss out on this opportunity to help us.

VALEYARD
(bitterly) No! I refuse to help you. What do you take me for?

SALVADOR
Why should the Valeyard help you? He’s against you, Doctors!

DOCTOR 9
(scorns) Oh come on, Salvador. You can’t be that thick.

SALVADOR
I… What do you mean?

DOCTOR 11
Haven’t you worked it out yet? How did the Valeyard know so much about me to draw multiple versions of me as well as our friends to this network?

DOCTOR 8
How did he know where to locate us specifically?

SALVADOR
Because he’s a Time Lord from Gallifrey. Just like you Doctors are.

DOCTOR 12
Not just a Time Lord, Salvy boy. He’s more than that.

BILL
(puzzled) W-W-What are you getting at, Doctors?

DOCTOR 7
He has the same mind as us. Literally the same mind.

DOCTOR 13
Remember, Salvador, what I told you about the Valeyard’s name. It means ‘learned court prosecutor’.

VALEYARD
(bitterly) Don’t, Doctors!

DOCTOR 10
(ignores Valeyard) It also means…’Doctor of law’.

DOCTOR 9
As in the ‘Doctor of law’. The Doctor. Hasn’t it clicked in for you yet?

SALVADOR
(confused; shocked) W-W-W…What?!!!

ROSE
You mean to say that he’s…he’s…

NYSSA
(interjects) He was the Doctor all the time.

BILLY
(astounded) What? The Valeyard is another Doctor?!

DOCTOR 5
Really? Will we end up being him in the future?

DOCTOR 11
A possible future, yes.

DOCTOR 1
Fascinating. Most fascinating.

DOCTOR 6
And disturbing.

SUSAN
(confused) But…how can that be? How can grandfather end up like him?

SALVADOR
(shocked) No! You’re…You’re the Doctor! You’ve been the Doctor all this time?! All this time I’ve been working with one of the Doctors!

VALEYARD
(interrupts) I’m nothing like the Doctor! I refuse to acknowledge that identity! I’ve renounced the title!

DOCTOR 7
You can’t deny your nature, Valeyard. You are a part of us.

DOCTOR 9
I renounced being the Doctor once. When I fought in a war that was long and hard.

DOCTOR 10
It was a period of my life I’ve regretted since. One I wish I could rewrite.

JEN
(baffled) But…how can he be the Doctor? He’s nothing like you.

ACE
Yeah. You’re brave and kind-hearted travelling the Universe, Professor.

DARBY
Right! This guy is just scum.

DOCTOR 4
I’m intrigued. This man doesn’t carry the same charm and charisma we Doctors have.

DOCTOR 7
I recall the Master telling me something about the Valeyard at my trial all those years ago.

DOCTOR 8
The Valeyard represents the darker sides of our nature. An amalgamation, if you will. Somewhere between our twelfth and final incarnation.

DOCTOR 13
Of the first regeneration cycle, that is. I’m the first of the second, you see. Though that’s somewhat debatable in hindsight.

AMY
So, who are the Doctor’s twelfth and final incarnations of their first regeneration cycle?

DOCTOR 11
That’d be me. I’m number twelve.

DOCTOR 12
And I’m the final one. The Valeyard could have been created whilst I was regenerating on the planet Trenzalore. I’m glad I didn’t regenerate into him. I could have easily killed Clara if I’d done so.

DOCTOR 11
(realises) Wait! Did you say Trenzalore?

VALEYARD
(determined) How I came to be is irrelevant. I refuse to acknowledge I’m a part of you. And I sincerely refuse to help you.

DOCTOR 13
Valeyard, please. Don’t be so stubborn.

VALEYARD
(bitterly) No! You shall not have my help! Not now, not ever!

The Brigadier takes out his revolver pistol and points it at the Valeyard’s head.

BRIGADIER
You will do as the Doctors say. Help them or I’ll put a bullet in your head.

KATE
(anxiously) Father, be careful.

VALEYARD
(laughs) You wouldn’t shoot me in cold blood, Brigadier. You wouldn’t dare.

BRIGADIER
Would you like to risk it, you blaggard? I’m a damn good shot.

DOCTOR 3
Brigadier, there’s no need for this.

VALEYARD
(scoffs) No, Brigadier. You won’t shoot me. You wouldn’t dare to shoot your once dear old friend.

SALVADOR
(bitterly) So, you admit you are the Doctor. How could I have been so blind?

The violent shuddering persists in the background.

BARBARA
(anxiously) Ian? Is it my imagination or is this violent shuddering getting worse?

IAN
(anxiously) It’s not just you, Barbara. I fear the violent tremors are getting too much.

JO
(anxiously) I don’t like what’s happening.

PERI
(anxiously) Me neither. This nightmare has to end soon.

SCENE #249 – EXT – MAELSTROM – N/A
As well as the opening to outer space shrinking furthur, the maelstrom’s interior is compressing, especially around Salvador’s base and the interdimensional network.
